This is an equipment list for the Mission "Blackmail" in the game "Thief II: The
Metal Age" (v. 1.18) by Looking Glass Studios at Lytha.com.

This list is for expert difficulty only. Typically, but not necessarily, you will find more equipment and have more choices in the loadout screen in the lower difficulties.

My recommendation for the not so very much experienced gamer: Purchasing the tip is always a good idea. More broadheads are definitely not necessary, and you should purchase the fire arrows only if you enjoy playing the demolition man sometimes.
I recommend that you purchase the water arrows, some flashbombs, the healing potions, the tip, and use the rest of the money in moss arrows.

About the keys
Key type |
Function |
A grey key |
The grey key opens mainly doors of the Mansion that lead to the various balconies. Some of these doors can't be picked, others can, but the order of this seemed to be fuzzy. |
A blue key |
Whereever you will find a door inside of the mansion that you can't open with your lockpicks, you will be most probably sucessfully with this key. |
A metal gear |
The first of the metal gears opens the door to the 2nd floor. The other one opens the door from the 2nd floor to the main entrance hall. |
A silver gear |
The silver gear opens the door from the 2nd floor to the 3rd. |
A golden gear |
The golden gear (gained from one of the three panicking guards) can be used to open the second exit of the central staircases, 2nd floor. This is useful, if you intend to take the way through the mansion when you are going to leave. |
A bronze gear |
The bronze gear (found in Truart's bedroom) can be used on either of the staircases from the 3rd floor down to the main entrance hall. The reason for the gear lying in his bedroom is most probably a plain logical decision of the mission designer - if all doors could have been opened only coming from above, then Truart had locked up himself perfectly in his castle... ;) |
